The ERASMUS Münster e.V. was founded on 25 October 2011 by employees and student assistants of the International Office of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWU). On 9 March 2012 we received our certificate attesting the non-profit character of our organisation. Today we are an all-student local Erasmus+ initiative (LEI) funded by the National Agency of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Very soon after our foundation, we managed to take on a central role in the support and integration of exchange students. For this reason, we were awarded the WWU Student Prize in 2013 for exceptional student commitment. Our dedication to improving and simplifying the situation for exchange students upon arrival in Münster as well as our support for orientation at WWU and in Münster were emphasized.
In the following years we have grown continuously and have built a diverse profile with a varied semester programme that supports integration in Münster and promotes intercultural understanding. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus+ Programme in 2017, our exhibition "Faces of Erasmus" was displayed at a gala celebration of the City of Münster and WWU as an example for the promotion of European cohesion and exchange.
The success of our current support programme was also honoured. In 2019 we received the award for special commitment of a LEI within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme by the National Agency of the DAAD. At the DAAD Erasmus+ Annual Conference in Saarbrücken in September 2019, we were recognized as an exceptional example of above-average voluntary commitment for international and Erasmus students. See a small report on page 44 here (in german).
With currently more than 50 social, cultural and sport events per semester, including weekend and day trips, we constantly strive to contribute to the integration of exchange students in Münster and to guarantee an extensive and multi-faceted support programme.
